I am not joking when I say that we only got ONE glorious day of summer here in Ireland this year! We decided to make the most of it and went for a drive in the beautiful Irish countryside. Mr Fluffytufts took me for lunch in The Merry Ploughboy, a lovely pub perched high up the Dublin Mountains. The pub is situated very close to the DSPCA shelter, so we thought we’d pop in and see the animals.
The DSPCA is Ireland’s largest animal welfare organisation. They do amazing work rescuing and caring for animals of many types (both domestic and wild). A lot of the animals in the shelter have been seized as a result of cruelty, injury or neglect. Once at the shelter, they are taken care of and rehomed/released into the wild, where possible. The DSPCA also work to educate and inform pet owners, and run a mobile clinic for people who cannot afford to bring their pets to the vet.
We enjoyed meeting some of the animals at the shelter. One of the animals below now lives with us, but more on that in a future post!
WOW! 🙂
Thank you!
Aw, great post!! I know I’m biased because I volunteer there but it really is an amazing place and nowhere near as sad as people might think. The animals that are there are the lucky ones.
The DSPCA do great work, and the shelter is great! We’re heading back soon for Venus’ health and happiness check! I have made a few cat toys, so will leave them at the vet clinic for you! 🙂
Looks so nice! That black dog is beautiful! I thought you had great weather in Ireland in the summer!
The black dog is a permanent resident at the shelter (I think!). You can’t see it from the photo, but she only has three legs. She doesn’t let it bother her though!
We had 2 days of summer in the UK ( East Sussex ) lol .What a great day out, my husband won’t take me to animal shelters..I’d have to hire a bus to bring them all back in 🙂 I bet you had a great day 🙂 xx00xx
Mollie and Alfie
I knew that I would want to adopt them all, so I was well prepared to resist. It was actually Mr Fluffytufts who couldn’t resist this time. I am delighted though, as our new addition is delightful! 🙂
I love learning about other shelters. It looks like their outside facility is quite nice. Thanks for sharing this with us.
It really is a great shelter. I have visited a few over the years, and this is definitely one of the best. There is a large amount of open space, so the animals get lots of chances for exercise. I didn’t take a photo, but the kennel/cattery facilities are state of the art, and all the animals seem really relaxed.
This is one of the most scenic shelters I’ve seen—the animals there look like they are enjoying their sanctuary… but, of course, it is always nice to have a home that you can call your own. Can’t wait to read about the new addition to your fluffy tufts pack!
I will have to introduce our newest member soon. I am just trying to get some really great photos that will show off what a beauty she is! 🙂
Holy moley I wonder what it’s going to take to convince le boyfriend that I need a duck!
I know! I am totally trying to convince Mammy that we need a duck to play with. 😀
Looking back on this – still relevant. Perhaps even better because now I am going home, Tiernan says I can have a fluffy!
Oooooh! That will be exciting. Will you go for a cat or a dog?
I don’t know!!!!! The decision is to great. I am going to try to weasel both, but he might put his foot down :3
Thanks guys, for the nod on this one. Will definitely be looking into it.
